Get good gas mileage

So you have probably read the posts about what to do to your car to improve fuel economy. Such as correct tire pressure, clear air filter, etc. I’m just going to cover a few points that I figured out through experience and is pretty much common sense.

Driving habits are hard to break, but with some work you can drive towards better gas mileage. Here’s a list I put together that helped me get from 27 to 34 mpg. First off my tires are always inflated correctly and I keep my engine good running condition.

Slower take-offs

This is probably the biggest factor that helped my gas mileage. I used to try to be the first one off and ahead of the pack. By taking off slower the engine doesn’t work too hard and uses less gas.

Steady pedal

A small help but does work. Constantly changing throttle position can reduce gas mileage a slight bit because each push puts a little more gas into the engine. Once you’re at the right speed stay there and keep a steady foot. If you have cruise control, this does it already.

Anticipate stops

I’ve seen this on other places and I agree that it helps. Having to accelerate from a stop is harder on the engine that it is from a roll.

Other things I noticed while driving is just to drive slower. Even 5 mph makes a difference. I also give myself a little more time to get to my destination so I’m not in a rush. Being relaxed is a big help and reduces the chance of road rage.

I’m sure there are more tips out there so look around. These are just what I did to improve my own gas mileage. With gas prices reaching 4 dollars a gallon every little bit will help. You’ll get a smoother ride too!

Stuff

Finished the semester. That went well. I have about year left at this college, then off to some University.

I have been stumbling a freakin ton the past month. It’s becoming quite addicting and now with nothing to do in the summer, I feel I’m going to learn as much as I can about the interwebs. Woo! Also joined twitter. Haha. I’ve seen it around but never thought it would be useful. “Oh well,” I said. Find me.

small udate

I haven’t been around here much. Really nothing to say… I am busy with my college work and other things. Finally upgraded my PC, bought UT3, Orange Box, other stuff. That should be enough to keep me busy.

This blog I read is having a contest again. So this is my entry. Hopefully I win. The prize is 5 items from The Something Store. That site is pretty neat. You pay 10$ for a surprise. You never know what you could get. It could be anything. I tried once, but only got a cheap set of portable speakers which died shortly after. They look exactly like the same kind you can buy at this china wholesale store.

5 things I lost when getting contacts

I’ve worn glasses since early elementary school. I’ve gone through so many pairs I lost count. My eyesight is so bad I have to wear them at all times except for washing and sleeping. This past week I decided to finally give contacts a try. These are some things that I noticed I lost during the transformation.

1. Lost my identity

Everyone knew I wore glasses. Sometimes it’s what sets me apart or helps people remember me. Lately I have owned shiny silver rimmed glasses that really stand out against my black hair. Most of my friends noticed right away that I didn’t wear my glasses, and others said there was something really different about me. Where I go to school I never see anyone with silver glasses so I was the only one.

2. Lost Protection

I can’t count how many times my glasses have protected my eyes from various dangerous occurrences. This ranged from hands to the face when I sparred my friend to dust and debris Arizona dust storms. Now gusts of wind can become annoying due to the contacts drying out. I’ve already been barraged by all sorts of dirt. There’s construction at my school creating a very dusty environment.

3. Lost time

I know later one this one will get better but when I first put them on it took me 30 minutes. I also know it varies with each person but for myself it’s a lot of time. I actually gave up once before that. I have to wake up at 6am to get ready for work so I really value my sleep. I tend to be really lazy in the morning so it gets frustrating sometimes.

4. Lost money

Normally I don’t buy glasses until I break them or my prescription changes so much I can’t see anymore. My last eye exam was 6 years ago and my prescription still hasn’t changed. I’ve broken frames before but were replaced for only $20. Now I have to purchase the eye exam, the extra contact lens exam fee, and solution. Don’t forget contacts too, which I have to pay for every three months. The reason I never tried getting contacts was my astigmatism. I knew that contacts were going to be more than the average person.

5. Lost glasses

This is a given, but it’s really important. I constantly catch myself trying to adjust my glasses or squinting out of habit. Sometimes I’ll try looking for my glasses when I have contacts on. Another mistake I make is almost going to sleep while still wearing the contacts. Normally I would go to bed after taking my glasses off, but with contacts my glasses aren’t in the way of me laying down.

Hopefully a few of these will get better and I’ll be able to get back into my normal routine. I am really looking forward to all the good things contacts will bring though, such as sunglasses, hairstyles, and love from the fiance. XD
